Kokoshnik by Eisfluegel Kokoshnik by Eisfluegel
This is a kokoshnik – a traditional russian headdress – I created to go with my pseudo-russian baroque gown ([link]).

Pattern, sewing and photography by me.

It's made from dark green satin with a small rhombus pattern. The top trim is a dark brown feather boa, bottom trim is brown elastic lace with a floral pattern. The cameo was originally on the package of a soap. ;)
It has got lacing in the back to fit any head size and black cotton as lining. Between satin and cotton I used a fabric similar to buckram for stability. In German it is called Stramin, used for embroidery and most importantly it is a lot easier to get than buckram (actually in any tailor's shop).

So pretty! You made this entirely yourself, even the pattern? That's so cool ^^

Thanks a lot. :)
It took me some trial and error with paper before I had a decent pattern, but as in most cases the most simple pattern was the best.

Haha yeah the famous trial and error/blood sweat and tears strategy XD I've experienced that numerous times myself too :D Especially when I once had the great idea to make spats. Don't even know how many times I had to adjust and remake the pattern to make it fit nicely over the boots :D
But things like this are always worth the effort in the end, when you've made your pretty little hat or whatever it is and you can wear it with the rest of your outfit ^^ and you can be like: yeah, didn't go to a store and bought the same thing as every one else, just custom made it myself B-)
